"For Cheryl"

I wrote this song for Cheryl not long after we first met. She was nineteen years old. She decided to go to Banff to work for the summer, and I wanted to tell her how much I missed her. She liked the song a lot. Over the years she often asked me to sing it for her, even though it was never quite finished. It was missing the bridge. Now that she is gone, the song has been completed. One night, not long before her death, some words came to me to give her a home in heaven. In her last days, she felt comfort knowing that's where she was going... to heaven, for everlasting life. Perhaps this song will help keep her spirit alive here on earth as well. Goodbye my Cheryl.

Listen to the song.

For Cheryl

Living in a dream day
Searching for a new way
Yesterday remains home
Recalling what is deep inside
Lovely long brown hair
Touch of blond here there
Caught me with your blue eyes
And I miss you.

Watching as the sun plays
Bringing in a new day
Can't forget the old game
Recalling what is deep inside
Moved in with a smooth style
Broken by a warm smile
And those great big blue eyes
And I miss you.

Why did you have to go
Why did He take you away from me
It's not that you were running free
You were still at home with me.

Now that you're back with Him
High in the sky through eternity
You may be gone and you may be free
But you're still at home with me.

Living in a dream day
Searching for a new way
Yesterday remains home
Recalling what is deep inside
Lovely long brown hair
Touch of blond here there
Caught me with your blue eyes
And I miss you
And I miss you
And I miss you... Cheryl
